Angoulême and the Charente department: a great place to live!
Angoulême is known as the ‘balcony onto South West France’. This historical town lies at the heart of an urban area of some 110,000 inhabitants.
Angoulême is very well served by high-speed TGV trains. It takes just two and a quarter hours from Paris (one hour thirty-five minutes in 2017 with the new LGV high-speed train), just over three hours from Charles de Gaulle airport and an hour from Bordeaux (35 minutes in 2017).
A mild climate
Angoulême boasts a mild climate, a rich architectural heritage and is not far from the Atlantic coast (100 km from Royan and 120 km from La Rochelle).
A town with a rich cultural life where it’s pleasant to live
Angoulême is a medium-sized town (with a population of 110,000 inhabitants, suburbs included) with a very pleasant quality of life. People appreciate its cultural diversity and dynamism, the reasonable price of housing and mild climate. The town lives to the beat of its many festivals (International Comics Festival, French Language Film Festival, Musiques Métisses: Festival of world music…).
It has numerous cultural facilities: the International Centre for Comics and Images, the National Comics Museum, Angoulême Theatre, a concert venue, La Nef, the Conservatory for Music, Dance and Theatre, the Regional Fund for Contemporary Art and is home to a multitude of creative talents. Employees of creative media companies, multimedia artists, comic strip authors, writers collectives and students from the seven schools that comprise the Image Campus live and work together in an environment which is conducive to creativity, exchange, research and innovation.
Help and support from local and regional authorities
Pôle Image Magelis also provides specific support for schools and companies wishing to open or move here: finding suitable premises, accompanying them to trade fairs, creating links between students and professionals, and generally providing a wide range of help and support.
